Travel Photography - America

America offers an abundance of natural beauty that is almost overwhelming. No other single nation encompasses the amount of scenic diversity that comprises the American landscape. Yellowstone has more Icelandic-type geysers than Iceland, and the volcanic activity for which Iceland is renowned does not surpass that of the Hawaiian Islands. Alaska, with its glacier-bounded Fjord-like inlets, is as visually compelling as any stretch of coastal Norway. Wandering the backcountry of of Zion National Park, one could easily imagine that they are crossing the rock deserts of Israel or Jordan. My home state of Colorado has more mountainous terrain than Switzerland.

The comparisons and superlatives are endless because they arise from the physical vastness of this nation. Germany, the largest nation in Europe, is slightly smaller than Montana, our fourth largest state. From the petrified forests of Arizona to the redwood forests of California, there seems to be no limit to the natural beauty of America. "America the beautiful" is not simply a song intended to inspire, it is virtually a clinically objective description of the land in which we are so fortunate to live. In addition to natural beauty, America has world-class cities, such as New York and San Francisco, as well as some of the finest wildlife habitat on Earth. As much as I enjoy traveling abroad, if I could only photograph one country for the remainder of my life, it would be my own.
